Lorna Lumsden MBE
Lorna Lumsden, Applecross Trust Administrator for 18 years until her retiral in 2006, has been recognised in the 2008 New Year's Honours List.

Lorna has become a MBE largely in recognition of her work in conservation and economic development on the Applecross Peninsula.

Hartfield Bridge, allowing access to upper forestry plantations, was rebuilt in Summer 2006 by 11 Field Squadron 39 Royal Engineers (prior to their deployment to Iraq) as a training exercise for their young soldier engineers. The structure is now specified to accept 40 tonne lorries to carry timber.

Specialised engineering works on the abutments were undertaken to protect against spate river erosion.

Picture shows the official opening ceremony, the ribbon being cut by Lorna Lumsden on behalf of the Trustees in June 2006.
